2024 Hike For Starr

2024 Hike For Starr Registration is Open
Annual fundraiser returns to Del Valle Regional Park, Livermore

DUBLIN, CA – Starr Hospice has opened registration for its 2024 Hike For Starr, which will take place on Saturday, May 4, at Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore. Registration remains open through the event day, but interested parties are encouraged to sign up by April 5 to secure access to an Early Bird shirt pickup event, allowing them to skip the pickup line on hike day. Register at TheHikeForHope.com, or call (781) 832-0705 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starr Hospice is also seeking event sponsors. Various publicity benefits are provided at four sponsorship levels. Anyone interested in sponsoring should connect with Starr Hospice prior to April 5 so that their company logo/family name can be included on the event T-shirt. Details are available at TheHikeForHope.com.

Participants in the 2023 event encountered residual rainy weather from that season’s unprecedented storms. Yet, nearly 850 supporters still showed up—donned in ponchos and armed with umbrellas. Organizers are hopeful for more typical spring weather this year, with brisk morning hours that yield to midday sun. “If Mother Nature cooperates,” says Kendra Strey, event manager, “we expect to see well over a thousand hikers on May 4.”

About the Hike

The Hike For Starr is an annual fundraiser For Starr Hospice. Money raised through registrations and peer-to-peer supporting donations benefits patient care and helps keep grief support, dementia education, and family caregiver resources available to the public at no charge. The community’s participation helps Starr Hospice care for more than 2,000 East Bay neighbors each year.

Del Valle Regional Park, Livermore
Fiesta Grande Picnic Area

Organizers have mapped out an out-and-back 4.4-mile route along the East Shore Trail with an optional moderate loop on the Hetch Hetchy and Ridgeline trails that climbs to a scenic overlook. Or, choose a 1.7-mile route along the East Shore for an easy, flat stroll. Combine all three legs for a 6-mile excursion. Trail monitors will be positioned along all routes to help guide the way.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. The group starts out together, then hikes at their own pace. A free barbecue lunch sponsored by MCE Corp. awaits participants back at base camp (Fiesta Grande picnic area). Raffle prizes, silent auction winners, and top fundraiser awards are announced around noon, then it’s good-bye until next year.

Registration Fees (Tax-Deductible)

  • $35 adult, for participants age 18 and up
  • $15 youth, for participants ages 13–17
  • Free for kids 12 and under (registration still required to get a shirt)
  • $80 family package includes registration for 2 adults and 2 youth

Register at TheHikeForHope.com, or call (781) 832-0705 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
