2019 Hike For Starr Raises $90K

The Starr Hospice and Home Health community returned to Livermore’s Del Valle Regional Park on May 4 for the ninth annual Hike For Starr, which raised more than $90,000 For Starr’s patient care and community services.

The misty morning gave way to blue skies as more than 600 hikers and walkers hit the trails to support Starr's mission to provide exceptional, compassionate patient care in our local communities. Many participants were hiking in memory of departed loved ones and carried photos or mementos with them on the hike. Participants also could write names of loved ones on paper shoes and hang them on the Shoe Memorial.

“We are so grateful to the Hike For Starr participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers,” says Starr CEO Jennifer Hansen. “As a non-profit agency, Starr is blessed by the generosity of our community, which makes our programs and services possible.”

Starr relies on this key event to fund many of its services, including the Family Caregiver Education Series and grief support services, which are made available to the public at no cost.

“The event wouldn’t have been possible were it not for our 60 amazing volunteers,” says Jennifer Pettley, Starr's Director of Development. “We are also grateful for the folks from MCE Corp., which treated all the hikers and volunteers to a wonderful barbecue lunch following the hike.

With much appreciation, we thank our corporate supporters and top sponsors: Hitachi Vantara, Graham-Hitch Mortuary, Pleasanton Emergency Medical Group, MCE Corp., Bradley Tanks Inc., Skycam Aviation, Sansei Gardens Inc., New Image Landscape Company, Sutter Health Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and Heritage Bank of Commerce. A list of all sponsors and gifts-in-kind is available at TheHikeForHope.com.

We also recognize the hike teams and individuals who were raising funds For Starr. As of June 6, the top team fundraisers included:
First Place: Team Braveheart, $3,232
Second Place: Revelli Team Hope, $2,073
Third Place: Team Roger, $1,815
Fourth Place: Team Peachy, $1,352

Second Place: Colin Ritchie, $1,515
Third Place: Linda Simpson, $1,370

The 2020 event—our Tenth Anniversary—is scheduled for May 2. Watch for updates at TheHikeForHope.com.
